Allison Helgesen

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, you are running your own race.

What's your job about?

Do all care for our residents.  We advoke for quality care for our residents.  A mixture of many different patients we care for, including but not limited to caring for clients with down syndrome, dementia, Huntington’s, acquired brain injury and dementia.

All aspects of nursing care, including wound and palliative care.  Am also responsible for the mentorships of students and new team members. I have learnt so much from my current position which has given me the confidence being in the nursing field.

What's your background?

I have worked as a PCA while studying while doing my Diploma of Nursing. Prior to this, I was a stay at home mother with 3 children and also reception work. I also ran my own photography business.

I applied to Kilmour Health for an Enrolled Nurse position where I was interviewed via Zoom. This assisted me during the interview as we had experience with online classes.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

I love my job, I love to keep busy. I enjoy working with the residents and my team members. I know that some of the residents may not know what I am doing for them, but I know that what I am doing for them is providing them with safe care and being strong advice for their needs when they are not able to do this.

What are the limitations of your job?

My role bears a heavy load where the majority of my patients require two nurse care.
